It’s cheaper than you might think!
Monday, February 8th, 2010How about playing golf at St Andrews in Scotland?
St Andrews is quite simply ‘The Home of Golf’ and a must for all keen golfers, at least once in their lifetime!
Golf has been played at St Andrews for over 600 years. It’s long history, spectacular scenery and unpredictable weather all go to make it a challenge for even the most famous of players.
St Andrews Links is actually a collection of 7 golf courses, including the world famous Old Course, The Jubilee Course, The Eden Course and the new Strathtyrum Course to name just a few.
A round of golf at St Andrews is surprisingly cheaper than you might expect, green fees start at £8 for the cheapest off-season round although realistically expect to pay an average of about £50 for a round of golf on one of the more famous courses during the summer seasons.
If you wish to play on the old course there is usually a Ballot (or Lottery) and ticket prices are a little more expensive
Accommodation
For a total luxury experience try the Old Course Hotel for 5 Star Service. I’m told there are even Japanese speaking staff, although you should confirm this before you make a reservation!
If you prefer a cheaper alternative there are plenty of Bed & Breakfasts and Local Hotels in the surrounding area that will give a truly Scottish welcome.
One final word …. Beware!
The rough in Scotland is ROUGH and very unlike that found on golf courses here in Japan - you have been warned!
